For each weekly assignment the student is expected to view
the appropriate video program and to read the
accompanying chapters in the texts. In addition, the
student is required to view four films -- one from each of the major
genres: Western, Romantic Comedy, Combat and Film Noir
and to submit a three page typed review of each
movie.
A film review should provide a basic plat summary, a discussion of
the
film’s characteristics as they relate to the particular genre, an assessment
of the performances of the actors and comments
about the director’s style or
method. These reviews will be due
on
the following dates:
Western -- Monday, Sept. 20
Romantic Comedy -- Monday, Oct. 4
Combat -- Monday, Nov. 1
Film Noir -- Monday, Nov. 29
The student may place the written work in the folder labeled
“Humanities Seminar Video” located at the entrance of C 108 or
mail material
to Dr. M.F. Austin, P.O. Box 1315, Columbia, TN 38402.
A final exam will be given in the course but has not as yet been
scheduled. The student's final grade will be calculated by
averaging the final
exam score with the grades received on the four movie reviews.
All policies regarding student conduct, plagiarism, late work, etc.
are
